Molecular Formula: Mg3(C6H5O7)2·9H2O
Product Characteristics:
Magnesium Citrate Nonahydrate is a white or colorless crystalline powder. It is odorless, non-toxic, and non-corrosive; it is soluble in hydrochloric acid and slightly soluble in water. When dissolved in water, it forms a soluble magnesium salt and exhibits the acidic properties characteristic of citric acid. Magnesium citrate decomposes as the temperature rises. With a magnesium content reaching as high as 11%, and given that the magnesium it contains is readily absorbed by the human body, it serves as a vital source of dietary magnesium supplementation.
Saline Laxative: The most common medical application of magnesium citrate is its use as a saline laxative. Prior to any surgical procedure, patients are administered magnesium citrate to facilitate bowel cleansing. This efficacy stems from its tendency to draw water from body tissues; once introduced into the intestinal tract, it absorbs large quantities of water, thereby facilitating elimination from the body. Indeed, it can be used to treat constipation, as well as conditions associated with colon cancer or rectal cancer. Furthermore, magnesium citrate is effective in preventing the formation of kidney stones.
